I don't think that these philosophers were arguing that men were identical in every way. Instead, I think they were trying to point out that kings and other members of the royal family weren't *inherently superior* to the common people in intellect or moral worth. Surely this isn't a pernicious, society destroying doctrine. I don't understand all of this disdain for the Enlightenment.
