The Tragicomedy of Will Stancil

What happened to him was funny, the reason for it is not.

It is one thing to hear about such a thing second hand, but quite another to witness somebody’s very public implosion in real time. Such has been the case with Will Stancil, a “policy researcher” (read: guy who generates the “data” that governments use to justify making our lives worse) whose only previous claim to fame was, well, I’m not actually sure he had one. Indeed, up until about three weeks ago, if you’d mentioned him to me, I’d have asked you what a “Will Stancil” even was.

But then….oh, but then.

Young Mr. Stancil decided he’d try his hand at crossing swords with Steve Sailer, a man who has keenly followed and become an expert at all matters related to human biodiversity over the past couple of decades. So what topic did Will decide to get feisty about? You guessed it. Predictably, it did not end well for him. But the really fun part started when Will absolutely refused to recognise this fact and doggedly plowed onward, digging himself into a pit from which he has still not climbed out.

But what’s really interesting about this saga is the precise evolution of Will’s side of this on-going running battle. As time went on, our “data driven” guy became progressively less data and progressively more driven. Having been quickly overwhelmed with respect to facts and statistics, Will began falling back into the typical liberal patterns of throwing out “signal words” (racist, Nazi, etc.) as a replacement for sound argumentation. Then came the usual complaints about free speech allowing his opponents to be able to actually say what they believe without punishment. He has eventually ended up claiming that everyone who disagrees with him, everyone who recognises tangible differences between people groups, everyone who wants to limit or end immigration - all of these people are Nazis, NAZIS I SAY! And of course, being Nazis, they might just need to go to a reeducation camp (not kidding about this). It’s to the point where some observers are wondering if Will is really a foil designed to make the Left look foolish.

I don’t think so. In fact, once he really got going, Will revealed himself to be the platonic ideal of liberalism, that ideal form of leftism to which all little progressives aspire.

Now I’ve written before about the difference between having a worldview and having an ideology. Briefly, a worldview is a comprehensive picture of the world that accrues from a combination of social tradition and personal experience. As a result, worldviews tend to be realistic, resting on a familiarity with what actually works. Ideologies, on the other hand, rest on theory that is most often divorced from facts on the grounds. In a sense, ideologies are applied wishful thinking, more often than not using theory (what ought to happen) to override everyday empirical observations (what actually happens) about any number of issues, and they do so in support of particular efforts to make the world operate in a certain way that it probably would not otherwise. And liberalism - and I mean that in the broad sense of the term as it applies historically - is one of the worst offenders in this regard.

For instance, take Will’s insistence on the essential fungibility of both individuals and different groups of people (races, ethnicities, etc.). Now, regular people recognise every day that there are all kinds of differences between different races and ethnicities. At their base, these differences are not always “good” or “bad,” they just “are” and taking them into account is that process of “noticing” that Will gets so angry about. This noticing gets in the way of the “blank slate” aspect of liberalism’s ideology. It denies the fungibility that liberal views of “equality” require to be workable, and since these differences rest on both cultural and genetic bases, this denial can never really be fully overcome. Hence, as an ideology and as an ideologue, liberalism and Will are forced to deny the observable and replace it with the theoretical.

Essentially, liberalism has been doing this since the 18th century. When “Enlightenment” philosophes declared the essential goodness of man, the complete malleability of society to be remade according to the liberal’s whim, the equality of all mankind in every way, they began the trajectory of distortion that continues to destroy the West today. Indeed, there really is a straight line leading from Voltaire and Condorcet to the French Revolution to the Communist Revolution to today’s woke progressives. Really, it’s revolutionism all the way down. And revolutionaries don’t like people standing in the way of their revolutions, which is why once Will realised he couldn’t talk people out of siding with Steve Sailer, he fell back onto the impulse to censor and to punish. He was merely revealing what he - as a progressive ideologue - was all along.

And that’s why one particular sticking point for Will was the current border crisis down in Texas - which he still, against all logic and against all observation, refuses to acknowledge is a crisis at all. All this mass immigration is good, don’t you see? Without it, who would introduce America to the joys of homemade empeñadas? Who would keep the socialist/corporate capitalist conglomeration afloat by providing low cost labour at wages Americans won’t can’t work for?

See, in the real world, normal people know that mass immigration, especially when it’s illegally done (but not only when this is so), is not “immigration,” per se. It’s an invasion by hostile people who don’t have our country and our peoples’ best interests at heart. But if you say this, you’re a “Nazi,” for reasons. Ultimately, the reasons boil down to the Left needing a source of mass population from the global south to replace recalcitrant American voters who don’t consistently install the Left into power often enough. Pointing this out tends to make people…notice…things and stirs up opposition.

Understand this - open borders policy is all about cultural revolution and ensconcing the globalist transnational elites into unassailable power. If you can successfully bring in tens of millions of third worlders - the vast majority of whom will vote Democrat to keep the flow of goodies going - you can replace Heritage Americans in their own land. That is, in fact, revolution. It’s the replacement of an existing system with another, only in this case the revolution is against the American people themselves. What is the goal here? To turn America into a deracinated mass of diversity, to corrode her standard of living and culture, to hobble this country so that it is not an impediment to future globalist plans. The childishness of selling out your own people and nation just to get access to a few foreign foods just makes this even more insidious.

The Left desperately wants this to happen because it is their path to power. And the smarter lefties are aware that collapse is coming and they have to move quickly. Hence, the despair that people like Will feel when word starts to get out that contradicts the Left’s immigration/diversity agenda, the disconsolate need to silence this opposition. But most of all, the mere realisation that there is even an opposition of any credibility to begin with. Will found his little bubble burst - from his view, the “Nazis are taking over Twitter/X!!” But the fact is that the “Nazis” were always there, it’s just that since the Left no longer runs that social media outlet, normal people can finally express normal opinions without having their accounts destroyed.

Of course, Will himself is not any kind of a driver for any of this. He’s waaaaay too far down the food chain to actually matter in any way. But he’s a microcosm of the progressive ideology as it’s expressed at the demotic level. What little status he has derives from parroting Regime talking points and providing the grunt work needed to keep the managerial state afloat. People like Will are perfectly happy to populate globohomo’s future favela of pod-dwelling bugeaters if it means “the bad people” get punished and opposition to the never-ending revolution is removed. So while it’s fun to make fun of people like Will, never forget that, at least in aggregate, these people are extremely dangerous to the safety and prosperity of the actual American people.
