The argument you hear made is that the last 100+ years of Progressivism (at least since the horror known as Woodrow Wilson) is that humanity has had such a great era of mitigating human misery worldwide. It never occurs to Progressives that this is despite their meddling and mostly because of cheap and abundant energy.
Progressives conveniently forget that the two things they most despise -- white male inventions and fossil fuels -- were largely responsible for the abolition of slavery. It would not have gone away without an alternative economic model.
Wilson may have been an abysmal president, but at the very least he forestalled the conquest of this nation's government by affirmative action hegemony. Most of the progressives back then would be considered rabid Republicans by modern standards, simply due to their opinions on race, class and eugenics.
Had they perpetuated their era of scientifically managed, technocratic Progressivism, assuming a constancy of values, this nation would be substantially closer to the right-wing Dissident ideal, at least racially.
(On the other hand, I may be positively biased towards Wilson, Treaty of Sèvres and all that).

Consider this hypothetical scenario.
What if, the globalists have realized that in order to realize their utopia, they have to operate more like an ant colony. What if the vaccines were designed to weed out the people who are incapable of producing such a world? Of course, leftists like to be surrounded by other leftists, but perhaps they have realized that in order to make things work, enslaving other leftists is a waste of time? Those enslaved followers are not particularly productive. Instead, they need to enslave the producers -- those less likely to have taken the vaccines.
If there is any intelligence behind current events, I would have to imagine that this scenario has been considered.
After all, what good is it to have a bunch of helpless pukes sitting around discussing art all day. They’re not going to produce anything. What they will do is sit around and question the decision making process, and perhaps cause an uprising, once they realize that they have been duped.
I have considered this myself. But I am not convinced. In its favour we have the ravings of the WEF court jester, Harari and his many comments about useless eaters. They would equate to the people you identify.
Then there is the fact the Covid shenanigans, especially the vax, were a gullibility test. The easily managed are unlikely to be tomorrow's great men.
And yet, the people ruling us have shown they want obedience, not greatness. Plus they fear people who can think for themselves. They must know if they culled a huge part of the population whoever was left would hunt them down like animals.
So I am not sure about that hypothesis.
Another hypothesis is they are just bored. I think some of what they initiate is taking the piss. Seeing what it takes to make us revolt. What about transgender pets; lets see what happens when we push that etc.

I think there's more to it than simple boredom. I would consider the space exploration side of things resulting from boredom, but not issues that involve serious, potentially deadly outcomes (for those laying the plans).

I have often observed this mentality in Leftists. Progress looks easy because they live in a super high tech world. Fancy phones and laptops as well as smart TVs.
However, this is the same mentality that believed millenials and Gen Z would be digital natives only to discover they struggled with word processors and spreadsheets. That is to say, the CONSUMPTION mindset that uses technology is quite different from the PRODUCTION mentality that creates, builds and sells things.
This is the great conceit of progressivism. It is a feminine mindset. Women are famously incurious about how anything works, so they more easily believe progress is automatic or inevitable. They are skilled at using such things, so believe there is not much more to it than that. We've all read great books. So how hard can it be to write one?
