Thanks for this, a lot to chew on.

A bunch of us were worried when you dropped off Twitter, glad to see you're still around. I can't tell if you're absolutely insane or a prophet we'l wish we heeded, but your work is some of the most interesting around.

A very fine article which offered a lot to digest.

I'd define the Deep State as a mass of networks embedded within the state that can operate covertly without regard to law or formal direction from the executive. The most senior strata of these networks are fully integrated into the oligarchy and perform a cybernetic function across public and private sectors.

It is an enforcer for private power within the state, uses both regulatory and financial power within the private sector and can act in its own interests at the expense of both the state and its nominal citizens. In other words, the Deep State is a crime family operating under an unacknowledged license.

Trump's fate will be decided by the calculations of the elite. If the elite come to the conclusion that the present regime is becoming unviable they will split. Those inclined towards the Right will mobilise their supporters within the masses behind the cause of reaction. Those who incline Left will do the same with their constituencies. The Right has little to no inherent credibility because it has no loyalty to its base and is increasingly distrusted by those who once supported it. The Left are consistent and no one doubts where they stand on civil conflict. Thus the Left has an enduring advantage.

Covid was the final nail in the coffin. Red states got on the restrictions bandwagon too, and everybody in congress thought it would be a great idea to print money. The Right either has to reinvent itself or die.

The failure of the Right to defend the Jan 6 prisoners, or at least protest the conditions under which they have been imprisoned, shocks me. It is very cold, regardless of how silly so many of them were. You are 100% correct: the Right changes or dies.

Theophilus... because you are American, for your entire lifetime you have been told that America is democracy, therefore America is a democracy. They lied to you. I am aware of not one tiny component of US government that equates with democracy.

An early American (English originally) Thomas Paine, spelled it out in a Christian context in his tome "The Rights of Man" from which many Americans believe the Constitution was derived. I have actually had a conversation with his present day decendents, who believe he wrote the Constutution.

But none of his work survived, The plutocrats saw to that.

The next American to clarify democracy was Abraham Lincoln with his lyrical "Government of the people, by the people and for the people". He meant this literally. In today's parlance, the fully informed community formulates all policy, then to be implemented by the civil service.

There were many democracies throughout history, all record of which has been erased. But all were fundamentally the same. And none had representatives, elections, parliaments, checks and balances, majorities, or whatever pomp and ceremony, or smoke and mirrors, have been erected to divert the public's attention and hide the meaning.

So, if you are going to reject democracy, fine, but you need to reject the real thing.
