"a pretty accurate description of a society of any kind that is not rooted in biblical principles"
You have never heard of the proto-Catholics slaughtering tens of thousands of non-Christians AND Christians in the Roman Empire? You haven't read about kings in the past? The Sun King? Russian czars? Kings who used up their country's money, and they were all "rooted in biblical principles," all Christians.
The Catholic Church tortured and burned other Christians, in Portugal, Spain, France and elsewhere. In France the Catholic priests hired bandits to loot the villages in the countryside for money to build a cathedral, and the local noblemen joined the peasants to defend their homes.
In Ireland nuns ran laundries where women were imprisoned and worked like slaves for being poor women turned to prostitution, or for having a child while unmarried, or for simply being thought troublesome. They were beaten and sexually abused. Nuns at the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home killed and buried 800 children born by unmarried mothers.
Christians are fighting each other in Ukraine at the moment. Christian Serbs and Croats were raping, torturing and murdering each other for years in Bosnia, and many of them went to Western Europe to live like parasites off what others had created - with the churches welcoming them and condemning "racism".
In 1939 in Christian Britain "Bomber" Harris started using the RAF to "exterminate the German working class," which Churchill enthusiastically called "the Splendid Idea". So that when the Germans broke through into France, most British bomb planes went past the crucial bridge to drop bombs on working-class neighborhoods.
Theophilus Chilton appears to be firmly advocating the 'turn the other cheek' maxim. The maxim that's allowed the world of the West to surrender all of its dignity, nobility, and honor, to a mass of alien cultures that care nothing about what that once meant to the peoples of the West.
What Chilton fails to recognize is that the Western traditions of dignity, honor, and nobility were - at one time - completely different from that of the East. He equates those concepts with that represented in the book he reviews.
And that's hardly surprising.
The abstract 'christian' 'justice' is precisely what's allowed the West to become the sewer-pit of dishonor it now is. Chilton fails to recognize that when mortals deny their inner-nobility, dignity, and honor - in relationship with the Divine - they betray their responsibility in defending Divine Principle itself.
This nonsense that only 'God' 'knows...the appropriate and righteous recompense against an offence' is the denial of the good and true mortal conscience. Because it's become corrupt does not change the fact that it's become corrupt precisely due to this cop-out of responsibility in defending the Divine.
Someone quite wise - and deeply devoted to the Divine - once said to the Inquisitors of Rome: 'The soldiers will fight, the Sovereign Eternal gives the victory'. The 'Christian' Church of Rome put that noble spirit to the stake.
There is nothing more infuriating, to those who today seek to defend the Honor and Dignity of the Divine's creation, than to read this kind of irresponsible, disingenuous - and naive - pseudo-'christian' lecture regarding 'justice' and 'righteousness'.
And if you believe that, then you’ve completely cut yourself off from any way of telling whether or not your religion’s ethics are superior to those of any other on offer. You, after all, will never have anything beyond “mortal conscience” on which to base any foundational moral judgment whatsoever.
Undoubtedly it is...particularity now...after centuries of the mortal conscience being polluted by the poisons preached by weak willed manipulative mortal men.
I agree, the vast majority of mortals have lost the vital link to the Divine. Some corrupted the meaning of it to mean the 'soul'...but it's actually the very mortal conscience itself. The vast majority of mortals are...soulless. Precisely because they've been fed this paralyzing nonsense that you've determined as 'truth'.
'Christianity' lost its moral authority because it corrupted the spirit of Truth that it was meant to be. And the results are clear.
You demonstrate that. If 'the goodness of the "mortal conscience" is a crock', you admit that you have no goodness in your conscience yourself. You can't even fathom that it can, and does exist. But it still does...for some...and very few.
And you vindicate my point regarding your original post quite vividly.
super interesting pop anthropology... non-related question : why does your substack name not really fit with your christian worldview ? Ciceron was an epitome of pre-christian societies and cultures
*Romans 12:19 😇
🗨 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
↑↑ That's what the actual Romans 12:9 says—a peculiar typo, doncha find? 🙂
Fixed!

Only Christians can be trusted with power, sure.
Let's keep in mind that most of this is, at the very least, overblown if not existing purely in the realm of "Reddit history."
Regardless, the people who can act worse than the "Christians" (true or false) are non-Christian.
Ya wretched party pooper, for shame! 😭
Truly disingenuous...and naive.

...is causing me to reassess the view that the Chinese are a high IQ population.
I'm convinced that this is mostly CCP propaganda. It's useful for your enemy to believe that you're smarter than they are.
Great insights here. Thank you.
Nice writing, I like it and it's very insightful =)
