The Left Wants 1936 Spain

But will probably end up getting 1939 Spain instead

So it finally happened. For quite a while discerning social observers had been predicting that sooner or later someone would make an attempt on the life of Donald Trump. It finally happened this past Saturday evening at a campaign rally in Butler, PA, while giving his speech. Trump was shot by one Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year old resident of Bethel Park, who sniped at him from the roof of a nearby building. One bullet nicked his ear - if Trump had not turned his head at the very last second, the outcome would have been very different. As it stands one member of the audience was killed and others injured by the shooting spree.

What could have possibly induced this young man to try to murder one of the most politically prominent men in the country?

What indeed?

Despite the effort they are putting into running away from it, the fact is that the violent rhetoric that we have seen against Trump for the last eight years from the Left, as well as from other Regime-oriented elements of the Never Trump movement, almost assured served to radicalise Crooks. The anti-Trump elements in this country have maintained a fever pitch of verbal insanity against the man that far exceeds any reasonable opposition that would be justified on the surface (which suggests there’s something…deeper…going on). You can’t spend eight years comparing someone to Hitler, saying that someone literally wants to kill everybody, posting about how you want to kill him (I’m looking at you, Reddit), accusing someone of treason for disagreeing with you politically, and not have it knock a few people off kilter in the ol’ noggin. The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of very prominent people on the Left who have been ginning up a fever pitch of murderous hatred against President Trump through their bombast.

I’m sure this is entirely metaphorical…

I mean, it’s not like the Left has shied away from political violence before. Remember when one of them assault Rand Paul, a sitting federal Congressman? Remember when one of them plotted to murder Brett Kavanaugh? Remember when one of them shot up a Congressional Republican baseball practice? Pepperidge Farms remembers. As it turns out, the American Left is adept at evoking stochastic terrorism against its political opponents - laying out the rhetorical groundwork to incite the violence while hanging back in the shadows to give themselves “plausible deniability” once the inevitable happens. They know that they have an endless reservoir of mentally unstable wackadoodles who can be wound up and set in the right direction. If you spend any time on social media, you see these people every day.

The reasonable face of the anti-Trump movement

Over the last 36 hours or so the Left has realised that they screwed up. Keep in mind that your average Regime-friendly pundit or politician lives in an ideological bubble, their own little self-contained fact space. For them, “everybody” agrees with them, and the relatively small few who don’t are just dumb chuds and incels who don’t really count anywise. So they just figured that everybody who matters would be on board with capping Trump and there’d be little pushback. “The shooter did what he had to do for democracy” and all that, what’s done is done, fiat accompli. They were mainly just mad that the shooter didn’t succeed.

Only after they started getting significant pushback did they begin falling back onto calls for unity and condemnation of political violence. Yet, the Left’s violent rhetoric is responsible for this. It’s sadly hilarious to watch them play the “we didn’t do this, but we’re glad it happened” game right now. If anything, the press and the constellation of left-wing social media personalities are the enemy of the people and you don’t hate them nearly as much as you should - they certainly hate you if you’re not some kind of left-wing weirdo. Nevertheless, the honest person finds it jarring to see the Left spend years telling us that “words = violence” as a way of justifying the suppression of free speech against their political enemies, only to then turn around and try to argue that their very obvious calls for violence can’t be held accountable.

The media are trying to make hay by casting Crooks as a “registered Republican.” One who donated to the far Left organisation ActBlue. One who had been radicalised against Trump enough to try to shoot him. Whatever his “formal” partisan affiliation might have been, he was a messed-up kid who, after hearing a constant drumbeat of hysterical and homicidal balderdash, was motivated to attempt an assassination. If he was a “Republican,” it was only in the same sense that many of these Regime-friendly “Republican” Never Trumpers are so.

The calls for unity, while perhaps well-meaning, are ultimately futile because the Regimers don’t really want reconciliation. They’re not repentant nor do they think anything wrong was really done, they just know that it’s a black mark for them so they’re trying to deflect the damage. The fact that they’re not really acting in good faith is shown in the way they are now constantly trying to push blame off onto everyone else, “You pointing out our constant incitement is itself incitement!!” and so forth. In a way, it's a bit hilarious to watch the anti-Trumpers run from the past eight years of their own rhetoric. The same people who lack the courage to even be able to understand shaking your fist in an assassin's face also lack the courage to stand by their own words. If there’s anything we see right now, it’s that the Left and other anti-Trumpers are extremely shameless about lying and trying to cast themselves as the victims.

Take, for example, Matt Croyle (whose post on Twitter is shown in the montage above). Croyle was a constable in Oil City, Pennsylvania until he was removed from office for essentially telling people that they may have to consider killing their own family members who support Donald Trump. Now, any reasonable person obviously understands this to be completely outside the bounds of any kind of sane political discourse. Croyle was removed from office, rightfully so. Yet, in his interview he gives us this gem,

“It’s extremely dangerous because of the way the algorithms are set up, not only on Facebook but also with X, to where it pulls us into an echo chamber of people that may be dangerous,” he continued. “It’s not fair to the average person of the average intelligence to be exposed to that when they’re not aware of what is actually happening.”

Get it? If you were offended by what he said in his ever-so-nuanced plea for non-violence, then you are some kind of dimwit who is really the problem here. Good grief, man, just take the L and move on.

Now, part of the justification the Left gives for their opposition to Trump is that he is a “grave threat to democracy.” Of course, what they mean is that he is a grave threat to Regime corruption, since for them, “democracy” doesn’t mean “majority rule” and all that jazz; it means whatever the Regime needs it to mean to maintain and increase their power over our lives. That’s why (for example) a perfectly constitutional SCOTUS ruling such as the one overturning Chevron, made completely in accord with their lawfully-constituted powers, is cast as a “threat to democracy.” After all, it has the potential to roll back all manner of daily intrusions into our lives, and that is DaNgErOuS and ThReAtEnInG. Trump is a “threat to democracy” in that same sense.

Now, we might joke that nothing says “democracy” like assassinating your political opponents, but keep in mind that the Left actually does believe this unironically. The entire political program of the Left - and this has been the case since the “Enlightenment” - is perpetual revolutionism. “Progress” never ends, can never be satisfied. It must always move on to the next step of the program. Any obstacles to the advance of Progress must be removed by any means necessary. And Trump is one such obstacle.

To draw an historical analogy, the Left believes they are in Spain circa 1936 when the Left was in the ascendancy. For those unfamiliar with the history, the Left in Spain before, during, and after the 1936 elections made a bit of a habit out of assassinating Rightist political leaders, among other things. As with other left-wing revolutions that took place in the first half of the 20th century, the Spanish Republican revolution of 1936 saw a great deal of excess that was driven by the Left’s radical rhetoric translated into action. So we’re seeing here, and if there’s one thing that can be said about the low IQ, high time preference American left-wing and their Regime allies in the Uniparty, acceleration is their strong point.

That’s why the Left wants to disarm you and is even using the Trump assassination attempt in a cynical ploy to advance their agenda in this area. It’s a lot easier to foist a communist revolution off onto people who can’t fight back, after all. In recent years, the global Regime found out the hard way what happens when you don’t disarm your victims beforehand. Closer to home, this is why the left-wingers absolutely hate Kyle Rittenhouse. He is an ongoing reminder to them that even though he had basically no training, was still able to drop three baddies in a stressful situation, and they're afraid that this means that all of us might be able to do the same.

As we all know, the Spain of 1936 was eventually succeeded by the Spain of 1939. The Left has a funny way of provoking the very things that it says it fears, and if the Left continues on the course it is going here, they may well see the Caesar they dread. The ironic part is that it would be the result of their own ongoing provocations. Left to themselves, the Right largely just wants to be left alone. But the Left doesn’t want to leave us alone, which creates a bit of an impasse. Nevertheless, if there is to be violence it will almost assuredly originate from the Left. They’ve already revealed their proclivities along those lines, long before the attempt on Trump’s life. Expect to see more leftist stochastic terrorism in the months ahead, especially if it continues to look like Trump has a good chance of winning the election in November.
